The latest Scream movie—titled simply Scream, but set twenty-five years after the original Scream—has been a blockbuster success, even in a world where many of us have yet to return to movie theaters. Since its release on January 14th, Scream has made more than $100 million globally.

So it’s not the least bit surprising that the rebooted franchise will continue.

The latest Scream movie returned to Woodsboro, where original series stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette arrived to guide a new generation through the extreme trauma of a whole lot of murders. It’s the first Scream since original director Wes Craven’s death in 2015; this outing was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not), who will return for the sequel along with writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

It is in no way a spoiler to say that, as with all Scream films, not everyone in the cast survived the latest outing. We’ll have to wait and see who joins up (as murderer or murderee) for the next installment of self-aware scares. Musing on the possibilities for a sequel, executive producer Chad Villella told The Hollywood Reporter, “In order to make it special, you need to subvert things that have been established as the new rules and play outside of those parameters. Let’s break the rules now that we just re-created. And just go for it. I think you have to really go there.”

There’s no word yet on when we’ll be going there for Scream 6, I mean, Scream 2 (Reprise), I mean, I have absolutely no idea what they’re going to call this one. Production begins this summer.
